About the project:
It’s a 10 day long program dedicated for mainstream youngsters, youngsters with fewer opportunities and youngsters with light physical disabilities, focused on inclusion and diversity. The program promotes a caring connection among participants with different backgrounds, instructors and the world around them.
Diversity is about what makes each of us unique and includes our backgrounds, personality, life experiences and beliefs, all of the things that make us who we are. It is a combination of our differences that shape our view of the world, our perspective and our approach. Diversity is also about recognising, respecting and valuing differences based on ethnicity, gender, age, race, religion, disability and sexual orientation.
Inclusion occurs when people feel and are valued and respected. Regardless of their personal characteristics or circumstances, and where they:
- have the opportunity to fulfill their individual and combined potential
- have access to opportunities and resources
- can contribute their personal best in every encounter
- can contribute their perspectives and talents to improve their organization
- can bring far more of themselves to their jobs
- have a sense of belonging.
Our main goal:
The project focuses on specific aims :
- to support the inclusion of the disabled and fewer opportunities young persons by living-learning-acting-developing together in a big diverse group.
- to sensitize the mainstream youngster with the topic of diversity and inclusion.
- to increase interpersonal connections and encourage the social inclusion of youngsters among 28 young people from 5 European countries in various areas (rural and urban) .
Specific objectives of the project are:
- inclusion of the disabled and fewer opportunities persons;
- to become an active member in the group as a disabled/fewer opportunities person;
- to experience how to support in a right way the disabled/fewer opportunities person;
- to learn about the offering and asking for help in a group or in the society;
- to emphasize cultural diversity;
- to empower young people, especially those who have fewer opportunities, to make decisions and take actions.
The elements of the program: icebreakers, energizers, team building & problem solving, ropes course elements, preparation activities for the expedition, 2-days expedition, water activities like raft building and canoeing, cultural evenings, debriefing sessions, closing activities.
