YOUTH+ for social inclusion: development of youth workers for long-term engagement of self-governed groups of youth with fewer opportunities to carry out own initiatives
Co-funded by the: Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union
The YOUTH+ project is a development project for social inclusion that is part of the European Erasmus+ program and falls within the KA2 framework.
What is YOUTH+?
YOUTH+ is a step toward destroying prejudices, negative beliefs and establishing successful inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities.
It is an Erasmus+ KA2 strategic partnership project that aims to equip youth workers to engage the most vulnerable youth with fewer opportunities to be involved in long-term non-formal learning activities. As a result, youngsters at risk form their own self-managed groups – the so called “YOUTH+ GROUPS” (with extended mentoring and facilitation support) and initiate local projects and run their own ideas and manifest them into activities.
YOUTH+ project implementation period: November 2021 – February 2024
Location: in Romania and Germany
Participants: young people 16-20 years of age, with fewer opportunities coming from poverty, traumatized family background, foster homes, segregation; or with low level of education, NEET youth, migrants.
Participating countries: Hungary, Spain, Germany, Romania
Partner organizations:
- Academy of Experience (Élményakadémia) from Hungary https://elmenyakademia.hu/en/
- ABD from Spain https://abd.ong/en/
- Viakreaktion from Germany https://www.viakreaktion.de/
- Outward Bound from Romania https://outwardbound.ro/en/
What are the goals and objectives of the YOUTH+ project?
- Related to the targeted youth:
- to tackle discrimination, early school drop-out and unemployment.
- to improve by volunteering and competence development the emergence of positive peer role models who form the YOUTH+ groups Europe-wide and implement their own projects, to help their peers discover their own superpower, to control their own destiny and initiate positive changes.
- Related to the targeted youth workers:
- -lack of resources to work with the most challenging youth with fewer opportunities
- -lack of recognition
By a blended learning process we:
- -enhance support to empower groups of youth with fewer opportunities
- -increase digital competences of youth workers
- -raise the quality and recognition of youth work
Specific objectives of the project:
- For the youth workers: to provide new tools, ideas and methodologies to young people in situations of social vulnerability so that they can carry out their personal projects and produce a positive impact in the local community.
- For the youth: to contribute to the development of the personality of disadvantaged young people and to increase their resilience, so that they can respond more appropriately and efficiently to various crisis situations and difficulties.
Results:
- Development of the YOUTH+ online course
- Elaboration of the YOUTH+ Guide and toolkit on Sustainable Local Youth Engagement
- Online Course Designing Workshop
- Training of youth workers leading the FUYI processes
- Testing of the online course: Implementation of FUYI projects in 4 countries (HU, ES, DE, RO) composed of:
Team Building & planning
Volunteering days
Evaluation
FUYI Parties
- Youth leader training for sustainable local actions
- YOUTH+ “Be the change yourself!” Seminar in Spain
- SOURCE of YOUTH+ Conference in Hungary
By the end of the YOUTH+ project…
- In 4 countries, we form groups of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are the YOUTH+ teams.
- We are creating an online course, which is a freely accessible training that can be completed from anywhere and at any time for professionals working with young people.
- The participants of the course get to know the Hungarian From Us to You method and become able to facilitate a special learning process where a community of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds voluntarily helps others, while they themselves become contemporary role models and learn a lot about themselves and the world together with their peers. These young people are none other than the founders of other local IFI+ groups that are being established across Europe.
