Description
The Outward Bound Training for Trainers course is designed for field instructors, educators, guides and youth workers who seek outdoor education instructional training and personal skill development.
Our outdoor activities are unique and exciting; Through inspiring and challenging journeys of self-discovery in the natural world, participants cultivate resilience, leadership, connections and compassion.
The course uses the outdoor environment and teaching activities to encourage personal growth, interpersonal skill maturation, and keys to team development. We use a multi-day expedition to foster deeper understanding of how key learnings can be directly applied to everyday life.
Methodology
At the heart of this process is ‘experiential education,’ or learning by doing.
The experiential learning cycle we use is based on plan-do-review process. In order for real learning, actions are grounded in reflection and channeled back into action.
The situations are concrete rather than imaginary, and to be tackled “here and now”. They present problems, choices and many opportunities for each and every participant. Through these experiences participants learn self-awareness and discover insights about themselves. We look back to these experiences on a meta level which allows reflection on each situation from the point-of-view of the facilitator.
For theoretical inputs we use two methods: the inductive and the deductive. In some cases, theoretical models are presented first and the experiences are reviewed with the help of these models, in other cases models are deducted from the experience itself.
The scenario offers a safe space for all participants to design and deliver a program for the rest of the group. This is an opportunity to put in practice the course learnings.
